Can Heinz Run for Senator if Kerry Wins?

There’s a question for you - can Mrs. Heinz-Kerry run for her husband’s Senate seat should he win the Presidency? Can she be a Senator and not have been a naturalized citizen? Showing my ignorance there…..

She is a dynamic, strong woman who speaks her mind. I think she’d be a welcome complement to Senator Kennedy. Thoughts? Information on the legalities?

    2. From http://www.senate.gov

Representatives need to be 25 years old (compared to 30 for senators), and 7 years a citizen (compared to 9 years for senators). They must be residents within their states at the time of their election, but do not necessarily have to live within their districts.

The Constitution - Article 1, Section 2 for Reps, and Article 1 Section, 3 for Senators

      http://www.senate.gov/civics/constitution_item/constitution.htm

The website is cool and The Constitution section (link above) is really good.

    3. Eccentric foreign women scare me.

I disagree. She will be the worst First Lady ever, and I truly doubt that she will connect with middle America or the poor workers that she wants to try to help.

      She’s just too damn rich.

    4. She is a naturalized citizen, and over 30. I’m assuming that she is a resident of Massachusetts, so yes, she can run for his seat. I think it would be a breath of fresh air.
